For a couple of years now he has been the bane of my online life. And it hasn’t stopped yet.
Not only has he pissed me off with poor performances, refusing to die, stupid faces, bringing idiot trolls to my blog, that shirt buttoned right to the top, the gum chewing and the arrogance but now he goes and announces his retirement on a day when I have to go to work and don’t have time to write about it. Does the guy ever stop winding me up?
I know there are a lot of blogs out there who will write long, droning odes to him and his career – some of them may even be good – so I’ll just leave you with a smile and this:
P.S. Whoever is responsible for the ZombiePunter picture, please make yourself known so I can give you a credit.
*raises eyebrow*
’twas I who made the picture before posting that link
Don’t you raise your eyebrows at me sunshine!
I wondered if it was you, but I thought I had seen it before you posted it so wondered if maybe it had just done the rounds and you picked it up. Sorry.
’tis ok if I use it, yes?
It was level 1 editing, using the Zombify Yourself thing
Sure, it’s yours to abuse. ZombiePunter has been your thing for ages!
It looks great, thank you. If I knew there was a zombify yourself app I would have used it as far back as “the day of the dead cricketers”.
As soon as I saw the announcement today I thought of how overjoyed you must be that he finally woke up and smelled the coffee.
I can’t say I’m not happy, I just wonder who they are going to put in his place and are they going to give anyone more than 5 minutes to find their way in the team
Yes, the argument for Ponting to not retire has always been his career record (no denying how good it is, but his time has passed) and the need for someone to replace him. I say we don’t know until we try and if we continue with that argument we are in danger of going the way we have done with Warne – constantly looking out for the next prodigy, putting excess pressure potentials and not allowing them enough time to develop. As you say, they need to give the next generation time to develop and the sooner we begin, the better.
Good player, yes. But he is vastly overrated, without the support of the some of the very best cricketers of our generation in his team he would only be half the player he was. Its no coincidence that he completely fell away in the last few years.
People are stating the he is in the same league as Tendulkar, Kallis and Lara, stats-wise maybe but otherwise not even close.
Interesting thoughts. Actually, I saw your post on why Kallais is better than Ponting a few days back and you make some good points. While I do prefer Kallis to Ponting myself – who doesn’t? – I do think maybe you’re being a bit harsh on Ponting. Certainly of late he has been nothing compared with Tendulkar or Kallis, but he didn’t get those statistics handed to him on a platter. He must have done something right at some point.
I just can’t remember when.
Kallais? Don’t know where that came from.
Arresting presence. No way a spectator would have been looking elsewhere if Punter was on the field. Not many have that charisma.
